TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan City Government said Tuesday that a new road near the Southern Taiwan Science Park will fully open by the end of June to ease traffic in the area.
Speaking at an opening ceremony, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said the road will help reduce traffic around the science park and nearby industrial areas. The 3.5 km route connects Shugu Boulevard and Tainan Southern Route 134 with the third phase of the North Outer Ring Road, with two car lanes and one scooter lane in each direction.
The city’s Public Works Bureau said the project also widened and rebuilt two bridges along the route. It said the work will improve road safety and make travel smoother for drivers and scooter riders.
Huang said many people travel to and from the Southern Taiwan Science Park every day. He said the new road will give drivers and scooter riders another route and help reduce congestion during rush hour.
Officials said the road will also support high-tech companies and other industries in Tainan. They said better transport links will help workers, businesses, and nearby communities.
The Public Works Bureau said some sections opened after construction was completed in late March, and the full road is expected to open by the end of June.
