TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan City Government said Monday that the International Mango Festival will open Saturday at Zoumalai Farm, inviting visitors to enjoy the city’s mango season.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said Tainan produces more mangoes than any other city or county in Taiwan. He said the city’s mangoes are known for their high quality and distinctive flavor.
Huang thanked the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Taiwan External Trade Development Council for helping Tainan mangoes reach overseas markets. He said sales in Japan, South Korea, and Singapore have brought better returns for farmers.
Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih (陳駿季) said Tainan is one of Taiwan’s most important mango-growing areas, producing about half of the country’s mangoes.
Chen said Tainan mangoes are popular in Taiwan and overseas because of their many varieties and high quality. He said the festival helps more people learn about Tainan mangoes and supports farm tourism.
The city’s agriculture bureau said this year’s festival theme is “Meet in Tainan, Summer Mango Happiness.” It said the event is designed for families and will offer discounted entry to Zoumalai Farm during the festival.
The festival will also include events in major mango-growing areas across Tainan in July. Activities will be held in Nanxi on July 5, Zuojhen on July 11, and Yujing on July 12.
Agriculture Bureau Director Lee Fang-lin (李芳林) said the events will help visitors learn about local mango culture. He said they will also help promote farm products and summer rural tourism.
