TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tigerair Taiwan said Thursday it will launch its “tiger.mov” in-flight entertainment system next Thursday, allowing passengers to watch content on personal devices without downloading an app.
The airline said passengers will be able to watch movies and television shows through the system. They can also read the digital version of the airline’s in-flight magazine, “tigertales,” and view a flight map.
Tigerair Taiwan said the service will become available after the aircraft reaches 3,000 meters. The airline said the system is intended to give passengers more entertainment choices during flights.
Bluebox Aviation Systems provides the wireless entertainment system, while Stellar Entertainment helped select content for travelers in Asia. The initial content lineup focuses on Hollywood films, popular Asian films, and family-friendly programs.
Tigerair Taiwan said the content will be updated every quarter. It said regular passengers will be able to find new films and shows on later flights.
Bluebox CEO Kevin Clark said the company was pleased to work with Tigerair Taiwan. He said Bluebox’s system would help the airline build a more digital travel experience.
Tigerair Taiwan said the service will be free for all passengers through Oct. 24. From Oct. 25, passengers with tigerpro and tigersmart fares will receive a free access code.
Other passengers who want to use the service after Oct. 25 can buy an access code from cabin crew for NT$99 (US$3.14). The airline said passengers can enter the code on their device to start watching content.
Tigerair Taiwan is Taiwan’s first and only low-cost carrier. It flies to destinations in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.
