TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) is in Paraguay this week to review ongoing projects and expand cooperation as the allies approach 70 years of diplomatic ties.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Chen is leading a delegation to Paraguay from June 14-19, meeting Foreign Minister Ruben Ramirez and Vice Minister Victor Verdun, according to the ministry’s press release.
Chen said the partnership has seen growing bilateral trade and thanked Paraguay for its consistent international support for Taiwan, per CNA. He added that both sides aim to accelerate cooperation in AI, higher education and smart transportation.
Ramirez said Paraguayan President Santiago Pena’s May visit to Taiwan delivered fruitful outcomes and created momentum to deepen ties further. He added that Paraguay will continue advocating for Taiwan internationally.
The ministry said Chen checked on projects that include a Taiwan–Paraguay sovereign AI computing center, an electric bus pilot program, medical information systems, the Polytechnic University Taiwan-Paraguay, and the Taiwan- Paraguay Smart Technology Park, per UDN.
