TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The foreign ministry said Thursday that Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) visited Paraguay to review a project featuring Taiwan-made electric buses in the country’s capital, Asuncion.
During Chen’s visit to Taiwan’s South American ally on Monday, he inspected the project with Paraguayan Public Works Vice Minister Emiliano Fernandez and Taiwan’s Representative to Paraguay Ivan Lee (李岳融). The project brought 30 Taiwan-made electric buses to Paraguay in 2025, serving city routes in Asuncion in March.
Fernandez said the buses have been well received by local passengers. He said they praised their smooth operation, comfortable seats, air conditioning, space for people with disabilities, quiet rides, and zero-emission design.
Chen also rode one of the buses through the city and tested its electronic payment system. During the ride, he asked passengers about their experience with the service.
Some passengers said they now use the Taiwan-made buses for their daily commute. They said the buses had made public transport more comfortable and hoped Paraguay would continue to introduce more of them.
The foreign ministry said the project has helped improve the quality of public transport in Asuncion. It said Taiwan and Paraguay will continue working together on smart and green transport projects to support Paraguay’s move toward cleaner public transport.
