TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Din Tai Fung will adjust prices for selected menu items in Taiwan starting June 22.
The overall adjustment will average about 5%. The restaurant chain said the changes reflect increases in operating costs, including ingredients and labor, according to CTEE.
Under the revised pricing, its signature soup dumplings, or xiaolongbao, will increase 3.5% or NT$1 (3.2 cents) from NT$28 to NT$29.
Shrimp and pork wontons in chili sauce will increase 4.3% or NT$10 from NT$230 to NT$240.
Shrimp egg fried rice will increase 6.6% or NT$20 from NT$300 to NT$320. Side dishes will increase 8.3% or NT$10 from NT$120 to NT$130.
Founded in Taiwan in 1958 as a small edible oil shop, Din Tai Fung shifted its focus in 1972 after its dumplings became more popular than its original business. The family-run chain operates 180 locations across 13 countries, as of June last year, according to CNA.
This marks the company’s second price adjustment since June 2024. Several restaurant chains in Taiwan have also raised prices this year, including beef noodle chain Sanshang Qiaofu, fast food chain KFC, Formosa Chang, known for its braised minced pork rice, and buffet chain Eatogether.
