TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s National Security Bureau has opened an online portal for Chinese nationals who want to pass information to Taiwan on conditions inside China.
The website, launched Sunday, gives separate instructions to people connecting from China and those using it overseas, per CNA.
The bureau said the system is intended to widen its sources on Chinese political, military, economic, and social developments. It said more people have sought out Taiwan-linked agencies in recent years as China faces economic strain, tight political controls, and growing public frustration.
The portal asks users to take several steps before making contact. These include using a non-Chinese-brand phone or tablet, wiping the device to factory settings, avoiding Wi-Fi that requires real-name registration, using a VPN, choosing a Western-made browser, and opening a private browsing window, according to the report.
The bureau said protecting users’ identities and digital safety shaped the site’s design, citing Chinese internet surveillance and security concerns around Chinese-made phones.
Information submitted through the site will be screened by technical tools and reviewed by experienced teams pending further contact, the bureau said, per the report.
The NSB also released an AI-generated promotional video titled “Change,” which shows government workers watching their colleagues disappear one by one due to mysterious investigations and arrests. The content mirrors similar material put out by the CIA earlier this year.
The bureau said it will keep adjusting its intelligence work as conditions in China and abroad change, and will seek to cooperate with members of the Chinese public who share democratic ideals.
