TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Penghu County Government received a French parliamentary delegation on Thursday for talks on tourism promotion, marine conservation, and possible cooperation between Taiwan and France.
CNA reported that the delegation included French National Assembly members Estelle Youssouffa, Thomas Gassilloud, and Hanane Mansouri. Penghu County Deputy Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing (林皆興) welcomed the group and thanked the French parliament for its long-term support for Taiwan.
Lin introduced Penghu’s natural scenery and culture through a photo book. He also presented the delegation with a “Dragon Ball Z” souvenir fan, connected to the theme of this year’s Penghu International Fireworks Festival.
Lin said he had visited Mont-Saint-Michel in France and was impressed by its island scenery and famous church, UDN reported. He said Penghu and France share strong links through island tourism and marine conservation.
Penghu County is a member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World, an international association founded in France. Lin said this gives both sides a strong foundation for cooperation on ocean protection, bay tourism, and sustainable travel.
Youssouffa said this was her second visit to Taiwan and her first visit to Penghu. She said Taiwan is made up of many islands, and she hoped to learn more about different areas by visiting them in person.
Youssouffa said Penghu’s sea views, quiet environment, and comfortable pace left a strong impression on the delegation. She said she hoped to visit more of Taiwan’s outlying islands in the future.
