TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The US House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday unveiled a fiscal 2027 defense spending bill that includes NT$63.39 billion (US$2 billion) for Taiwan defense assistance and equipment replacement.
The committee said the fiscal 2027 defense appropriations bill provides NT$33.99 trillion in discretionary funding, per CNA. The bill aims to enhance US strategic military advantages, strengthen support for service members and their families, optimize Department of Defense operations, combat transnational drug trafficking, and advance the Trump administration’s priorities.
The bill stipulates that NT$31.7 billion be allocated to the Taiwan Security Cooperation Initiative through Sept. 30, 2028. With the concurrence of the secretary of state, the secretary of defense may use the funds to provide Taiwan with defense articles, services, and military education and training.
It also allocates an additional NT$31.7 billion to replace defense articles and reimburse services provided to Taiwan.
