TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) praised Taiwan-Palau cooperation on Wednesday after returning from a five-day trip to the Pacific island nation.
Hsiao toured infrastructure projects funded by Taiwan on the islands of Babeldaob and Peleliu, according to the Presidential Office. She said Taiwan’s technical mission was praised for its transformative agricultural initiatives.
The mission introduced fresh fruit and vegetable cultivation to help diversify dietary options available to Palauan schoolchildren. This has reduced reliance on processed canned goods and improved public health, she said.
The vice president also visited Belau National Hospital to review ongoing collaborations with Taiwan’s Shin Kong Hospital and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital under President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) “Youth 10 Billion Overseas Dream Fund Program.”
Hsiao revealed plans to use the fund to foster exchange programs between Taiwanese Indigenous youth and Palauan youth, leveraging shared Austronesian roots and common cultural ties.
Hsiao emphasized that the Taiwan-Palau partnership is built on mutual national interests, strategic alignment, and public goodwill. Taiwan continues to leverage its civic strength to champion the “Taiwan Can Help” spirit across the Pacific, she said.
