TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is planning a domestic travel subsidy program that offers hotel discounts and birthday hotel vouchers, pending legislative budget approval.
Transportation Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) said Wednesday the program could begin within one month of the budget passing, per CNA. If the budget is passed in July, measures would begin in August, but if delayed to August, rollout would move to September.
The Tourism Administration has outlined five domestic travel incentives aimed at boosting off-peak tourism. These include weekday hotel discounts of up to NT$2,000, NT$1,200 birthday hotel vouchers, theme park stay-and-play deals, corporate employee travel incentives, and Taiwan PASS discounts.
For international marketing, four incentive programs are planned, including rewards for repeat visitors, incentives for convention and exhibition travel, group incentive travel, and support for flagship international concerts.
The subsidy package is part of the “Dual-Engine Tourism Development Plan,” with a budget of about NT$34.6 billion (US$1.1 billion).
Tourism Administration Director-General Chen Yu-hsiu (陳玉秀) said administrative preparations require about three to four weeks, including registration and lottery procedures for the birthday vouchers, CNA reported.
