TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TSMC's market value more than doubled over the past year, lifting the chipmaker to ninth place in PwC's latest ranking of the world's 100 most valuable companies.
TSMC’s market capitalization rose 101% year on year to US$1.427 trillion (NT$45 trillion) as of March 31, according to PwC Taiwan’s "2026 Global Top 100 Companies by Market Capitalization" report released in May, per CNA. The surge moved the world’s largest contract chipmaker from 12th to ninth place, while also making it the fastest-growing company among the global top 10 and a new member of the “trillion-dollar club.”
TSMC’s performance raised Taiwan from seventh to fourth place in aggregate market capitalization among countries represented in the top 100, trailing only the US, China, and Saudi Arabia. Taiwan also recorded the highest market value growth rate among the top five economies at 101%.
PwC Taiwan Chief Markets Officer Lin Yi-fan (林一帆) told CNA that TSMC’s market value doubled on strong demand for AI devices and semiconductors. He said the result underscores Taiwan’s central role in the global technology supply chain.
Lin added that while these sectors remain key drivers of growth, Taiwan faces both opportunities and risks, as long-term expansion could be constrained by cyclical swings in a single industry, highlighting the need for greater economic diversification.
Surging global demand for AI helped Nvidia surpass Apple in market value for the first time, making it the world’s most valuable company at US$4.237 trillion, CNA reported. The report ranked the top 10 companies by market value as Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Saudi Aramco, Broadcom, Meta, TSMC, and Tesla.
