TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Coast Guard Administration on Sunday opened its 1,000-tonne patrol vessel Lienchiang to the public at Magong Harbor Pier 1 in Penghu to mark the seventh National Ocean Day.
Visitors were able to look at advanced navigation instruments, communication systems, and law enforcement equipment up close, Liberty Times reported.
By touring the ship and engaging with the ship crew, they gained a deeper understanding of the Coast Guard’s key missions, including maritime patrols, law enforcement at sea, search and rescue operations, and marine conservation.
The pier plaza also featured static displays and interactive booths, including ship model exhibits and drone operation demonstrations, per Liberty Times.
Captain Huang Tsung-cheng (黃聰正), commander of the Lienchiang, said that the CGA is tasked with maritime law enforcement, rescue operations, marine conservation, and safeguarding national maritime rights.
He hoped that opening the vessel to the public would allow people to better understand the Coast Guard’s duties, and in turn support its mission and take greater interest in ocean affairs.
