TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of National Defense plans an airsoft gun shooting contest for reservists in order to beef up civil defense resilience, reports said Saturday.
The first selection round for north Taiwan will take place on July 25 at Fuxinggang in Taipei’s Beitou District, per CNA. Registration is possible June 10-30, with reservists as the intended audience.
The organizers will provide the weapons for the match, which is open to men and women either as individuals or in teams of five, according to the All-Out Defense Education website. The national finals will take place next year.
The idea for the airsoft competition came from the presidential Whole-of-Society Defense Resilience Committee, according to the CNA report. Taking part in the contest will improve the reservists’ crisis response capabilities, the report said.
The weapons will be T91 electric and gas-powered airsoft guns modeled on the Taiwan-made T91 assault rifle. In addition to the shooting, close quarters combat will also feature in the competition. The airsoft guns were cheap and safe, but the contest would still help to improve the reservists’ shooting skills, officials said.
