TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) will lead a city delegation to Germany, Czechia, and Austria from Saturday through June 15 to strengthen democratic and business ties, the city government said Friday.
It added the trip will focus on meeting partners in democratic countries, visiting friendly cities, and expanding access to international markets. It said local governments should help industries respond to global market changes by building stronger overseas links.
The delegation will visit Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony, Dresden, Prague, Baden, and Vienna. Taichung officials said these areas have strong industries in machine tools, precision machinery, semiconductors, and bicycles.
Taichung has one of the world’s densest precision machinery clusters, the city government said. It said this makes the city a natural partner for Germany, Czechia, and Austria.
Lu will leave from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Saturday and return on June 15. Her schedule includes meetings with church leaders, city governments, Germany’s parliament, the Czech Senate, Austrian business groups, and overseas Taiwanese communities.
