TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's first edge computing AI governance compliance check workstation was revealed Wednesday by the Institute for Information Industry's Institute of AI Innovation and ASRock Industrial.
The workstation integrates ASRock's AI BOX-A395 with the III's ASTRA engine, which automatically runs AI and large language model compliance checks at the device level. This allows algorithms to run more smoothly and safely compared to cloud computing, per Economic Daily News.
The machine complies with international standards, making it suitable for health care, finance and precision manufacturing. It was showcased at Computex, which ended Friday, per Liberty Times.
III iAI Director General Derrick Tai (戴偉峻) said generative AI has brought new opportunities, but legal compliance and data security are important issues Taiwan must address as it integrates into the global supply chain. Tai added that the integration of ASTRA with edge computing is a testament to Taiwan's ability for software-hardware integration and regulatory compliance, per the Institute for Industry Information.
Edge computing is a localized solution that uses a specialized hard drive to process memory-intensive AI algorithms and LLMs. This greatly accelerates computing efficiency compared to cloud computing, which is typically slower, per ASRock Industrial Corporation.
