TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chicony Electronics Co. said Thursday it remains optimistic that demand for AI-enabled personal computers will support growth for the rest of the year, even as its May revenue declined.
The company reported May revenue of NT$7.23 billion (US$229 million), down 0.6% from April and 11% from the same period a year earlier. Cumulative revenue for January through May totaled NT$37.37 billion, a 5.2% annual decline, according to CNA.
Chicony is a major manufacturer of keyboards and power supplies. Its core business includes the production of keyboards, imaging products, power supplies, and smart home devices, as well as the distribution of computer accessories from various brands, according to MoneyDJ.
The company said notebook camera module revenue continued to grow in May, driven by PC customers shifting toward higher-end models amid rising memory prices and supply constraints. It also reported solid performance in AI-enabled smart security products and video conferencing systems.
Looking ahead, Chicony cited recent industry developments, including Nvidia’s collaboration with Microsoft on RTX Spark chips, designed to support personal AI agents running continuously on slim laptops and energy-efficient desktops. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s (黃仁勳) remarks also pointed to the emergence of a new era for AI PCs.
Research firm Gartner estimates rapid adoption of AI PCs, projecting global penetration could exceed 50% this year, making them a mainstream category. AI PCs are defined as personal computers with built-in artificial intelligence capabilities that allow AI computing to run locally without relying on cloud services, according to Teksource.
