TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Ministry of National Defense published pictures of a Chinese drone and a Chinese navy ship after it spotted 14 aircraft crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday morning.
In a news release, the ministry said that since 8:22 a.m. it had tracked 21 Chinese aircraft in the Taiwan Strait. It counted 14 of the planes and drones crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entering Taiwan’s air defense identification zone near central and southwest Taiwan.
The aircraft included Chengdu J-10 and Shenyang J-16 fighter jets, and a Shaanxi KJ-500 early warning aircraft, per CNA. Near southwest Taiwan, an Air Force F-16V jet spotted a Chinese WZ-10 drone.
At the same time, Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy ships were taking part in what China termed a “joint combat readiness patrol” to harass Taiwan, the ministry said. During the operation, Taiwan’s Cheng Ho guided-missile frigate kept a close watch on the Chinese anti-submarine corvette Jingdezhen.
As usual with Chinese intrusions, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval ships, and coastal-based missile systems to monitor PLA activity.
