TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Arm CEO Rene Haas said Tuesday that Taiwan is indispensable to the company’s global success, saying there would be no Arm without Taiwan.
Haas made the remarks during a keynote at Computex in Taipei. He said Taiwan has been deeply tied to Arm since its early days, from the first Arm chip packaging and testing to today’s AI era, where he said all Arm-based AI server chips are manufactured in Taiwan, per CNA.
He said Taiwan’s manufacturing base underpins nearly every device he uses, including smartphones, laptops, and products from major global brands such as Apple. Haas added that advanced applications such as AI servers, humanoid robots, and Tesla vehicle chips also rely heavily on Taiwan’s supply chain.
He said Taiwan played a key role in Arm’s growth through the mobile revolution and continues to be central as the industry shifts toward AI infrastructure.
Arm revealed that social media giant Meta Platforms will be the first major customer for its new chip, known as the AGI CPU, per Anue. The processor can be configured with up to 136 cores, consumes roughly 300 watts of power, and will be made by TSMC.
During the keynote, Arm also played an AI-generated video showing Haas experiencing Taiwanese street scenes, including visiting a night market and riding a scooter, before climbing Taipei 101 and parachuting back down.
