TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — BTS fans in Taiwan are praying to Yue Lao, the Taoist god of love and marriage, for help getting tickets to the band’s upcoming concerts in Kaohsiung, Reuters reported Monday.
Fans visited Bangka Longshan Temple in Taipei over the weekend with snacks in purple packaging, BTS merchandise, concert seat maps, and wish lists. Purple is widely linked with BTS and its fans.
The fans placed the items on an altar and prayed for a chance to secure seats. Some said getting BTS concert tickets is so difficult that they hoped divine help could improve their chances.
A fan surnamed Chuang (莊) said many people believe praying to Yue Lao is an effective way to find a match. She said fans see concert tickets as another kind of match.
The practice has become popular on social media in recent years. Fans believe Yue Lao’s red thread of fate can connect people who are meant to meet, including fans and concert seats.
A university student surnamed Ye (葉) said she believed a sincere prayer could help make a wish come true. Fans said the temple visits gave them hope before tickets go on sale.
BTS last performed in Taiwan with all members in 2018. The group’s planned Kaohsiung shows have drawn strong interest from fans across Taiwan.
