TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tigerair Taiwan will launch flights linking Kaohsiung with Komatsu and the island of Ishigaki in Japan in September, reports said Tuesday.
The move will increase the low-cost carrier’s Japan routes from Kaohsiung to 11, per CNA. Services to Ishigaki will start Sept. 2, with Komatsu flights beginning Sept. 3.
During the initial period, the carrier will operate two round-trip flights per week to each destination. The China Airlines-owned low-cost airline already operates flights between Kaohsiung and Seoul’s Gimpo, Jeju Island, and Da Nang in Vietnam.
The 14 routes will give residents of southern Taiwan a wider range of convenient options for overseas travel, the airline said.
Tigerair Taiwan said it will launch promotional fares Wednesday to mark the announcement of the new September flights. Ishigaki is located 200 kilometers east of Taiwan in Okinawa Prefecture, while Komatsu lies in Ishikawa Prefecture in central Japan.
