TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nvidia is the largest purchaser in Taiwan’s tech ecosystem and will continue investing in local talent as it expands in Taiwan, CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) said Tuesday.
Speaking at GTC Taipei, Huang was asked whether Nvidia was investing in Taiwan’s future and whether Taiwan was secure enough for the company to deepen its long-term commitment. He said strong supply chains need diversity and backup capacity, and Taiwan is an important US partner because Taiwan companies are investing in US manufacturing.
CNA reported that Huang named TSMC, ASE Group, Wistron, and Foxconn as Taiwan companies making major investments in the US. He said those investments help make the global supply chain stronger and less dependent on one place.
Huang said Taiwan’s role in advanced manufacturing has not changed. He said Taiwan remains the center of the technology manufacturing ecosystem and the place where many key technology products are developed and made.
Asked about Nvidia’s investment plans in Taiwan, Huang said the clearest way to invest is to spend money locally. He said Nvidia buys products and services from Taiwan companies and is now the “largest purchaser” in Taiwan’s tech ecosystem.
Huang said Nvidia also invests in Taiwan by hiring local workers. The company now has more than 1,000 employees in Taiwan and is building a new facility that can hold 4,000 people.
He said Nvidia will need to hire thousands more people in Taiwan over the next few years. Huang said the company could become one of Taiwan’s largest employers.
Huang said Nvidia can support Taiwan while also making its own supply chain more resilient. He said companies should work with the best partners in the world while keeping their supply chains diversified.
“You should always work with the best people in the world, while always staying diversified,” Huang said.
Huang also addressed Nvidia’s business in China. He said the US government has approved the sale of Nvidia chips to the Chinese market.
He said China is a large and important market. Huang said Nvidia will do its best to serve customers there.
