TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s benchmark stock index closed above the 45,000-point mark for the first time on Monday.
The Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) reached a record intraday high of 45,931. Gains narrowed as investors took profits following recent advances, with the index finishing up 604.97 points at 45,337.91, according to CNA and CTEE.
Turnover totaled NT$1.48 trillion (US$47.2 billion). The combined market capitalization of listed companies reached NT$147.88 trillion, according to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
TSMC closed unchanged at NT$2,355. Foxconn rose 1.56% to NT$293.5, while Delta Electronics fell 1.02% to NT$2,420.
MediaTek rose 5.68% to NT$4,555. Market sentiment was supported by expectations that revenue contributions from the company’s application-specific integrated circuit business could rise tenfold from previous projections, according to Business Today.
Personal computer-related stocks also gained after Dell shares rose in the US market. Acer, Asustek Computer, Wistron, and Quanta Computer all closed at their daily limit-ups.
Panel makers extended recent gains. Innolux and HannStar Display both closed at limit-ups, while AUO rose 3.48%.
Market attention remained focused on fan-out panel-level packaging, which extends chip packaging into panel-based production. The technology has gained attention for using square substrates instead of circular wafers, increasing usable area and improving production efficiency, according to the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association.
Passive component makers continued to rise on expectations of supply shortages and price increases. Yageo rose 7.05% and Walsin Technology added 5.58%, while Leatec Fine Ceramics, King Core Electronics, Taiwan Alpha Electronic, Laser Tek Taiwan, and Honey Hope Honesty all closed at limit-ups.
The robot sector attracted investor attention ahead of Computex, which will debut a dedicated AI robotics exhibition area. EverFocus Electronics, Tbi Motion Technology, Ying Han Technology, Tongtai Machine & Tool, Yuan High-Tech Development, and Kenmec Mechanical Engineering all closed at daily limits.
Lu Hung-yu (呂宏宇), manager of the Fuh Hwa Taiwan Future 50 Active ETF, said favorable industry trends continue to support global equity markets. He said the rapid expansion of AI applications is expected to boost corporate earnings in Taiwan, leaving room for further upward revisions in stock valuations.
First Capital Management Deputy General Manager Liu Cheng-yu (留政鈺) said capital is rotating into sectors such as passive components, optical communications, and AI PCs. He added that investors are closely monitoring developments in AI agents and related infrastructure demand, as well as potential market signals from Computex and Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
