TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) said Monday the city is working with Nvidia on a multi-phase smart city plan that will first target improvements to Metro Taipei’s Wenhu line.
Chiang spoke at Nvidia GTC Taipei 2026, an event presided over by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳), ahead of Computex, which opens Tuesday, per CNA.
Chiang said that, in addition to Nvidia agreeing to build its Taiwan headquarters in Taipei, the city is working to use Nvidia Omniverse to visualize scenarios such as peak-hour platform evacuations at Wenhu line stations. A full evaluation of the route and several of Taipei City’s busiest stations — including Daan, Zhongxiao Fuxing, Nanjing Fuxing, and Zhongshan Junior High School — is scheduled for 2027.
Chiang said improvements to the Wenhu line, including train and signage upgrades, would be completed by 2036. The city will also hold further talks with Nvidia on introducing AI to other administrative applications, including Taiwan’s first AI-compiled staff operation guidelines and AI-planned competitive budgeting, per CNA.
Metro Taipei’s Wenhu line began operations on March 28, 1996, as the Muzha line and was later extended to Neihu District. The line suffered frequent malfunctions before the city renamed it to its current name, per PTS.
