TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Unimicron Technology Corp. expects record financial results this year, driven by strong demand from artificial intelligence applications, CNA reported Monday.
The company, a leading maker of Ajinomoto Build-up Film (ABF) substrates, described this year as a period of strong growth. The supply-demand gap for ABF is expected to continue widening over the next few years, with tight supply of high-end products likely to last through 2028 as AI development shifts from training to inference applications, per CTEE.
Unimicron said it expects the second half of the year to outperform the first, supported by new product launches from customers, ongoing capacity expansion, and strong demand. It also sees growth momentum continuing into next year, with capacity planning already extending through 2027 and 2028.
Ajinomoto Build-up Film, developed by Japan’s Ajinomoto Co., is a thermosetting epoxy resin film used in printed circuit board production. Printed circuit boards serve as the base platform for electronic components.
Unimicron has raised its 2026 capital expenditure to NT$34 billion (US$1.1 billion), a record high. The investment will focus on ABF substrates, high-end printed circuit board production, and expansion of its Thailand facility.
The company plans to further increase the share of AI-related products in its revenue. Within ABF substrates, revenue from AI-related applications accounted for 40% last year and is expected to reach 60% this year.
Within printed circuit boards, revenue from AI-related applications is projected to rise from 55–60% last year to 65–70% this year. Overall, AI-related revenue is expected to exceed 60% this year.
Unimicron reported first-quarter consolidated revenue of NT$37.45 billion. Earnings per share reached NT$3.28, up 446% year-on-year, per FTNN.
