TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Czech Senate President Milos Vystrcil arrived on Monday for a four-day visit to strengthen political, economic, cultural, and academic ties between Taiwan and the Czech Republic.
Vystrcil is leading a delegation of around 40 people through Thursday, per CNA. The trip marks his second visit to Taiwan after his first in August 2020.
Deputy Foreign Minister Wu Chih-chung (吳志中) welcomed the group at the Taoyuan Airport's VIP gate and presented flowers on behalf of the government.
Vystrcil recently said he was visiting Taiwan at the invitation of Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), CNA reported. He is expected to meet representatives from the KMT and DPP as part of cross-party exchanges.
The delegation will also meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), and the heads of the ministries of foreign affairs, health and welfare, and economic affairs, as well as the National Development Council and National Science and Technology Council.
In addition, the group will engage with representatives from the business, academic, research, and cultural sectors. Vystrcil is also scheduled to meet former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).
Vystrcil said he and his team had spent months preparing for the trip to connect with partners, discuss business opportunities, sign memorandums of understanding, and promote student exchanges. He told the Czech Senate on May 28 that the visit is designed to build connections and expand bilateral cooperation in business, university exchanges, and cultural engagement.
