TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The number of outbound tourists surged 19.3% from last year in January-April, with 37.3% heading for Japan, the Tourism Administration said Saturday.
Taiwanese traveling overseas numbered 7.12 million during the period, per CNA. However, April recorded the lowest number, with 1.75 million departures.
Japan was followed on the list of most popular destinations by China, with 16.7% of travelers heading across the Taiwan Strait. South Korea came third with 10.2%.
The Tourism Administration also calculated that 2.99 million visitors arrived from overseas during the first four months of the year. The figure amounted to an increase of 3.8% over the same period in 2025. In April, 758,000 visitors arrived, an increase of 0.99% from the same month last year.
Japan was the largest source of visitors in April, with 109,000, or 12.33% more than the same month in 2025. While 116,000 travelers came from Hong Kong and Macau, the figure amounted to a 13.13% downturn from a year earlier. The 82,000 South Koreans were a 4.2% increase, the CNA report said.
