TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai (蔡力行) said Friday that TSMC remains the company’s closest long-term foundry partner.
The CEO made the remarks during the company’s annual shareholder meeting after investors asked about the future of advanced semiconductor manufacturing capacity, per CNA. Questions also focused on whether MediaTek may diversify production beyond TSMC.
Tsai said MediaTek has maintained strong cooperation with TSMC across multiple generations of chip technologies, ranging from 12 nm to advanced 2 nm and future 1.4 nm processes, per UDN. He added that the partnership also covers advanced packaging and co-packaged optics technologies.
Tsai described the relationship as long-term and beneficial, saying MediaTek intends to continue working with TSMC well into the future. At the same time, he said the company has grown into a major semiconductor company and must understand the capabilities of other foundries.
Tsai said TSMC nevertheless remains MediaTek’s most important and longest-standing manufacturing partner. He declined to comment on recent internal issues at TSMC related to employee concerns over changes to profit distribution policies.
Responding to shareholder questions about employee welfare, Tsai said MediaTek places emphasis on corporate social responsibility and workplace support. He said the company will continue to invest in employee compensation and career development.
