TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former US Army General Charles Flynn discussed Taiwan-US defense industrial cooperation at the Taiwan-US Defense Industry Forum in Taipei on Thursday.
Flynn said the priority is establishing resilient and survivable logistics and supply chains, which also form the foundation for joint research, development, and production, CNA reported. This requires advanced technologies and strong dual-use military-civilian industrial networks between the US and Taiwan.
Flynn said Taiwan should also focus on building long-term relationships rather than single transactions, according to CNA. He explained that the visiting US-Taiwan Business Council delegation seeks to listen and deepen mutual understanding.
This would help the US understand Taiwan’s defense needs and help formulate planning that can better align with US industry capabilities. This would allow the two countries to move from isolated cooperation projects toward strategic co-development partnerships.
The other goal, Flynn said, is fostering creative thinking by combining traditional precision-strike systems with asymmetric warfare capabilities.
The former general added that the future belongs to those who can integrate advantages and rapidly generate decisive superiority, per CNA. He said Taiwan and US businesses can develop solutions that enhance combat effectiveness, impose pressure on potential adversaries, and buy Taiwan more time to pursue “peace through strength.”
He hoped that exchanges between Taiwan and US industries would transform ideas into concrete actions.
