TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Annual bonuses for staff at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will keep rising by at least 30% per year, Chair C.C. Wei (魏哲家) said Wednesday.
He was responding to media reports predicting bonus cuts, with threats of union action and strikes as a result, Liberty Times reported. Wei reportedly cleared his schedule Wednesday to discuss the issue with personnel representatives.
The increase in bonuses for 2026 would be at least 30% over the total handed out last year, as there was no ceiling for the size of bonuses at the company, Wei said. He also encouraged staff to use the extra money to buy shares in the semiconductor manufacturer.
According to online posts by staff who attended the meeting with Wei, he said there was no certainty yet about how the bonuses would be divided in the future. The TSMC board decides each year how profits are shared, Wei said.
Environmental, social, and governance policies were factors in the decision, with an increase in green investments and social spending, per Liberty Times.
Wei said that unlike other businesses, TSMC did not base bonuses on whether a department or division made a profit. The company did shoulder a heavier social responsibility year after year, but he said he could promise the increase in bonuses this year would still be at least 30%.
