TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Chinese coast guard vessels twice entered restricted waters near Kinmen within 24 hours, prompting Taiwan’s Coast Guard to deploy patrol ships and issue repeated warnings.
The Coast Guard said four Chinese coast guard vessels intruded into Kinmen’s restricted waters at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, claiming to conduct “law enforcement patrols.” Taiwan deployed patrol ships and broadcast warnings until the vessels left at 5 p.m.
Four Chinese vessels again entered Kinmen’s restricted waters at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, marking two incursions within 24 hours. Coast Guard vessels immediately moved in parallel with them, collecting information throughout the operation.
Warnings were issued in both Chinese and English. All Chinese vessels exited the restricted waters at 11 a.m. following the response.
The agency said the Chinese coast guard has repeatedly used different formations to enter Kinmen waters and later issued unilateral claims asserting jurisdiction. It said these actions have been exposed and countered as part of efforts to combat disinformation and cognitive warfare.
