TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Forum 2000 will hold the Forum for Democratic Cooperation in Taipei for the first time on Wednesday.
Forum 2000 Foundation Executive Director Jakub Klepal said this year’s forum explores how democratic countries can maintain internal and external strength and promote practical cooperation as the global order undergoes restructuring, Liberty Times reported.
Klepal said the forum will underscore the role of middle powers and small countries and how they can reshape models of cooperation amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
Amid dramatic changes in global geopolitics, Taiwan has demonstrated particularly impressive economic performance in fields such as AI, Klepal said. He said holding the forum in Taipei at this moment is especially timely.
Although this marks the first in-person Forum 2000 event held in Taipei, he noted that the organization and Taiwan have cooperated for many years. He added that Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) will deliver opening remarks at the forum.
Huang Chun-yao (黃鈞耀), director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of European Affairs, said Forum 2000 invited then-President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) to speak in the Czech Republic two years ago. The choice of Taiwan carries great significance, he said.
Huang said Taiwan sits at the center of global geopolitical developments and that its economic and technological strength has a profound global impact. He said the forum’s focus on resilience-building and cooperation among small and medium-sized democracies highlights Taiwan’s solidarity with the global democratic community.
