TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Samuel Yin (尹衍樑), Ruentex Group chair and Tang Prize founder, died early Tuesday morning at a Taipei hospital at the age of 76.
Ruentex said Yin passed away peacefully at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, per CNA. Family members were by his side at the time of his death, while employees across the conglomerate expressed deep sorrow over the news.
The group said Yin dedicated his life to industrial innovation, public engineering advancement, and philanthropy. After taking over the company, he transformed it from a textile manufacturer into a diversified conglomerate spanning construction, housing, finance, insurance, retail, department stores, biotechnology, and healthcare.
Yin was also known for his humanitarian outlook and international vision, CNA reported. A strong supporter of education and scientific research, he made long-term donations to academic institutions and established the Tang Prize in 2012 to promote research in sustainable development, biopharmaceutical science, Sinology, and the rule of law.
The company said Yin had already implemented a professional management system and succession plan to ensure stable, long-term operations. It added that all affiliated businesses continue to operate normally under their existing management teams while upholding the principles he championed throughout his life, including “integrity, pragmatism, and innovation.”
Regarding funeral arrangements, the conglomerate said Yin’s family would honor his wishes by keeping proceedings simple. No memorial hall or public funeral ceremony will be held, and the family has declined wreaths, funeral couplets, and monetary offerings.
