TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan will raise its airport service fee in two stages after a decade without changes, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications said Monday, citing rising infrastructure costs.
Starting Sept. 1, the fee for international departures will increase from NT$500 (US$15) to NT$750, per CNA. A second adjustment will follow on Sept. 1, 2028, raising the fee to NT$1,000.
The ministry noted that Taiwan’s rate remains low compared with neighboring economies. It said the increases are intended to help finance major projects at Taoyuan Airport, including a third terminal and a third runway.
Under the current system, the NT$500 fee is split evenly between the Tourism Development Fund and the airport operator, CNA reported. After the first-stage increase, NT$300 will go to the Tourism Development Fund, with the remainder allocated to the operator.
Following the second-stage increase, NT$350 will be allocated to the Tourism Development Fund, with the rest going to the airport operator.
