TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taichung City Government said Monday it has started a public review of bidding documents for the planned airport metro Orange Line.
The review runs from Monday to Friday before the city formally opens bidding. The city said the step shows the project is moving into more detailed planning and design.
Taichung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau Director Su Jui-wen (蘇瑞文) said the Orange Line’s feasibility study was approved in principle by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in July 2024. The plan was sent to the Cabinet for review in July 2025.
Su said the ministry later resubmitted the plan after Taichung completed related review procedures. He said the city has begun early preparations for comprehensive planning and basic design, a preparatory stage before more detailed project work.
Su said the public review will help the city collect opinions and improve tender documents before bidding begins. He said the work is meant to prepare for later stages of the project.
The planned line is about 29.23 kilometers long and will have 26 stations. It will include 15 elevated stations and 11 underground stations.
The route will start from Taichung International Airport and pass through Daya, Xitun, Beitun, North, East, South, Dali, and Wufeng districts. The city said the line will improve airport access and support wider urban development.
The bureau said the tender covers comprehensive planning, environmental impact assessment work, and basic design. It said the review will let potential bidders study work details, contract terms, and tender rules in advance.
The bureau said the documents have been posted on the government procurement website. It invited companies to download the files and submit comments before the deadline.
