TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said communication and coordination between Taiwan and the US remain normal at all levels.
In a TTV interview, Cho said American Institute in Taiwan Director Raymond Greene has played a major role in facilitating bilateral communication, CNA reported. On a possible phone call between US President Donald Trump and President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), Cho said he believed the Presidential Office would continue monitoring the situation closely.
Cho said that based on comments from multiple US lawmakers, US policy toward Taiwan will not change, nor will the US agree to any attempt to alter Taiwan’s status quo through force or coercion. He added that US lawmakers have also urged the US government to uphold the Six Assurances and approve the US$14 billion (NT$440.36 billion) arms package for Taiwan as soon as possible.
The US understands that it shares common interests with Taiwan in the global economy and technology sectors, Cho said, adding that maintaining Taiwan’s social system, democracy, and production capacity serves global interests. He expressed optimism that bilateral cooperation would continue.
