TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — “Taiwan Travelogue,” the first work from Taiwan to win the International Booker Prize, will be adapted into a television series through a Taiwan-Japan co-production, producer Chang Chen-yu (張辰漁) said Friday.
Written by Yang Shuang-zi (楊双子), “Taiwan Travelogue” won the 2026 International Booker Prize for its portrayal of colonial-era Taiwan through a fictional travel diary and culinary travelogue.
Chang said the project is in early development with partners in Japan, aiming to bring the novel’s historical narrative and cultural themes to a wider international audience, according to UDN. Chang did not disclose budget details or casting but said production timelines will be announced later.
“A good story has such a great power that it can cross time and space and borders, and closely connect the hearts of countless people,” Chang was quoted as saying.
Chang said the adaptation will retain the novel’s multilingual and cross-cultural elements while leveraging Japanese production expertise, calling the collaboration a “natural fit” given the story’s historical context.
Industry analysts say Taiwan-Japan co-productions have gained momentum in recent years as streaming platforms seek regionally authentic content with global appeal.
