TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — King Yuan Electronics on Friday inaugurated a new chip testing facility in Singapore, aiming to strengthen its role in advanced semiconductor testing.
At about NT$2.47 billion (US$78.4 million), the facility will focus on high-value testing services for AI chips, high-performance computing, and advanced packaging, per CNA. Taiwan’s representative to Singapore Tung Chen-yuan (童振源) attended the opening ceremony alongside executives from Nvidia and MediaTek.
Tung said the project reflects a shift in Taiwan–Singapore ties from trade-based cooperation to deeper integration, per UDN. He noted that semiconductors dominate trade flows, accounting for about 85% of Taiwan’s exports to Singapore and roughly 80% of Singapore’s exports to Taiwan.
He added that Singapore has become a key global semiconductor hub, producing about 10% of the world’s chips and 20% of semiconductor equipment. Major firms including UMC, Vanguard International Semiconductor, NXP Semiconductors, and Micron Technology have expanded operations there in recent years.
King Yuan President Chang Kao-hsun (張高薰) said Singapore was chosen for its stable and international business environment. He added that while the domestic market is limited, Singapore’s understanding of global supply chains allows it to serve as a strategic node.
