TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Fubon Bank opened its Tokyo branch on May 1, marking a significant milestone in its overseas expansion and strengthening its regional financial network across Asia.
The bank held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception in Tokyo on May 18 following the launch of operations earlier in the month, according to a press release. Richard M. Tsai (蔡明興), chairman of Taipei Fubon Bank, led a delegation of senior management to Japan and hosted the ceremony, underscoring the bank’s commitment to the Japanese market.
Fubon stated the Tokyo branch represents a key step in its international expansion strategy and is intended to enhance connectivity across Asia-Pacific markets. The bank said it will leverage its resources from the broader Fubon Group to provide services, including syndicated lending, project financing, and trade finance locally.
The bank further noted that global supply chain restructuring and faster capital flows are driving demand for more sophisticated financial services. It said multinational companies now expect banks to provide not only funding but also local expertise, industry insight, and long-term partnership support.
Fubon added that the Tokyo branch will build on Japan’s mature financial environment and strong risk management practices to refine its own capabilities. With locally experienced staff and a diversified product portfolio, the branch aims to provide tailored solutions that support clients’ local operations and competitiveness.
The bank also highlighted that its overseas operations have maintained strong growth, ranking among the top three Taiwanese private banks in terms of overseas pre-tax profit and loan balances last year. It said the addition of Tokyo branch, together with the new branches under application in Australia and India, is expected to further strengthen the regional footprint as it continues expanding across Asia.
