TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Keelung prosecutors questioned three suspects over an alleged plan to smuggle servers with Nvidia technology to China, Hong Kong, and Macau, CNA reported Thursday.
The high-end AI servers were made by US-based Super Micro Computer Inc. but contained advanced Nvidia chips, per CNA. Because of the chips, their export to China, Hong Kong, and Macau is prohibited.
Three men surnamed Yu (游), Wang (王), and Chen (陳) allegedly planned to buy dozens of servers with a market value of NT$10 million (US$316,000) each, prosecutors said. As they provided false information on customs declarations to downplay the importance of the technology, they could also face prosecution for forging documents, the report said.
Prosecutors and Coast Guard Administration officers raided the properties of the three suspects in Keelung on Wednesday. They confiscated evidence at 12 locations and questioned the suspects overnight, concluding that they were flight risks and should remain detained.
