TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yageo Chair Pierre Chen (陳泰銘) has become Taiwan’s richest individual, according to Forbes’ real-time billionaire rankings at the time of publication on Thursday.
Chen ranked 172nd globally with a net worth of NT$527.5 billion (US$16.7 billion). He surpassed Foxconn founder Terry Gou (郭台銘), who placed 196th with NT$480.1 billion.
Chen’s position in the rankings is closely tied to Yageo’s strong stock market performance. The passive components maker has recently benefited from supply tightness in the sector and growing demand, with its shares rising over 70% since the start of the month, according to Yahoo finance..
Other leading Taiwanese billionaires are also concentrated in the technology and industrial sectors. They include Quanta Computer founder Barry Lam (林百里), Delta Electronics founder Cheng Tseng-hua (鄭崇華), MediaTek Chair Tsai Ming-kai (蔡明介), and TSMC founder Morris Chang (張忠謀).
Rounding out Taiwan’s top 10 are figures across a range of industries. Among them are Fubon Group Chair Daniel Tsai (蔡明忠), Fubon Financial Holding Chair Richard Tsai (蔡明興), Hong Fu Industrial Group founder Chang Tsung-yuan (張聰淵), and Cathay Financial Holding Chair Tsai Hong-tu (蔡宏圖).
