TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taitung County experienced a magnitude 4.8 earthquake at 9:11 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 27.8 kilometers north-northeast of Taitung County Hall at a depth of 4.8 kilometers, the CWA said. Taiwan uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure a quake's intensity at a specific location.
The quake registered a 4 in Taitung County and a 3 in Hualien County. An intensity level of 2 was recorded in Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Changhua County.
An intensity level of 1 was reported in Kaohsiung, Nantou County, Tainan, Chiayi, and Taichung.
