TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Far EasTone has become the authorized Taiwan reseller for Amazon’s low-Earth-orbit satellite internet service Leo, the company said Tuesday.
Far EasTone said it signed a cooperation agreement with Amazon Leo, Amazon’s satellite internet business, per CNA. Commercial operations are expected to begin globally, including in Taiwan, in the first half of next year.
The company said it plans to combine its telecom network operations and information and communications technology integration capabilities with Leo’s satellite services to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity solutions.
Far EasTone said the service is designed for sectors including maritime operations, agriculture, and mining. Unlike traditional satellite systems, it said Amazon Leo offers lower latency and higher bandwidth, with its flagship enterprise terminal supporting download speeds of up to 1 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 400 Mbps.
Far EasTone President Ching Chi (井琪) said the company has invested in infrastructure and emerging technologies to strengthen network resilience, per Anue. She explained that low-Earth-orbit satellite systems can maintain connectivity in areas where terrain or severe weather disrupt conventional networks.
