TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Bureau of Consular Affairs advises travelers to register before leaving the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday.
The bureau will open a booth at the May 22-25 Taipei Tourism Exposition to offer information about safety measures before and during overseas travel. The ministry has recommended registration before overseas trips, especially amid cases of Taiwanese being detained in China under unclear circumstances.
The bureau’s booth at the travel expo will tell visitors about safety measures and hotlines to call if they encounter difficulties during trips overseas. There will also be a raffle with airline tickets and model airplanes, the ministry said on its website.
Airlines from Taiwan, the Philippines, South Korea, New Zealand, and Vietnam donated a total of 10 round-trip tickets. Carriers from the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, and Malaysia provided model airplanes and Lego sets for the raffle at the expo.
Participants need to answer questions via the bureau’s Line account between May 19 and May 24. Downloading a travel safety app could lead to winning an NT$1,000 (US$31.50) voucher or a bag. The prize winners will be announced at the expo at 11 a.m. on May 25.
