TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tze-Chiang trains will begin stopping at Kangle Station in Taitung County on July 1.
Kangle Station has been served mainly by Chu-Kuang Express and local commuter trains, forcing residents to transfer trains to travel north, CNA reported. Residents previously launched a petition campaign with more than 1,000 signatures calling for Tze-Chiang services to stop at the station, but years of efforts were unsuccessful.
In January, Fengtian Borough Chief Huang Chuan-chih (黃泉智) submitted a petition signed by representatives from seven local communities to DPP Legislator Chen Ying (陳瑩), requesting improved rail service, per CNA.
Chen said the station also connects visitors to the National Museum of Prehistory and nearby attractions, making it an important hub for both tourism and residents, according to CNA. After discussions and coordination with Taiwan Railway Corp., Tze-Chiang trains No. 441 and No. 402 will stop at Kangle Station.
Huang thanked Chen for her assistance, saying the long-awaited train service issue had made major progress. He encouraged residents to make full use of the services at Kangle Station and to help secure additional train stops in the future.
