TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — At a diplomatic reception in Geneva ahead of the World Health Assembly (WHA), three of Taiwan’s allies voiced support for Taiwan’s participation, highlighting its contributions to global health and development.
Eswatini Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula said the partnership between Eswatini and Taiwan continues to strengthen, per CNA. He said Taiwan has supported Eswatini’s development through cooperation in health care, rural electrification, water resources, agriculture, information technology, bilateral trade, and infrastructure.
Matsebula said “leave no one behind” is the cornerstone of an efficient and equitable health care system. A fair health system does not exclude anyone, he said, and reflects diversity while serving every person with dignity.
For this reason, he said Eswatini will continue to advocate for Taiwan’s inclusion in the WHA. He added that “Taiwan can help, and Taiwan is helping.”
Tuvalu Health Minister Tuafafa Latasi said Taiwan’s support for Tuvalu has always been pragmatic, reliable, and highly valued, according to CNA. He said Tuvalu highly regards Taiwan’s contributions to global health and human development.
“We will continue to support and advocate for the international community to recognize Taiwan's important role here and meaningful contributions in promoting better health around the world,” said Latasi.
Curtis Martin, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health of Saint Kitts and Nevis, said that "Taiwan has earned its place among the healing hands of partnering practice in science and health," and it deserves a seat in the WHA, CNA reported. He added that this is a position the international community should collectively support.
