TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese teams won eight awards, including two gold medals, at the recently concluded Robofest competition in Southfield, Michigan, per UDN.
The three-day event was held at Lawrence Technological University and attracted dozens of Taiwanese elementary and high school students, along with coaches and team leaders. Backed by Michigan, the competition also offers scholarships and drew teams from 25 countries.
After learning of the results, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago conveyed congratulatory messages from President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴). The two leaders praised the students’ efforts and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence.
Taiwanese teams have consistently performed well at Robofest, highlighting Taiwan’s strength in science and technology, according to TECO Chicago. Advancing to the finals in the US is based on team performance in international qualifiers.
With 27 years of history, Robofest is one of the premier international events for autonomous robot design to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Participants may use any robot assembly tools and programming languages.
A gold medal in the RoboMed Sr. category went to the KCISXG team from Kang Chiao High School in New Taipei. Another gold medal was won in the Exhibition Sr. category by the Connector team from Washington International School in Taichung.
