TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan will strengthen its healthcare system with AI-enabled tools and prevention programs to address growing cardiovascular disease risks, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Saturday.
Lai made the remarks at the opening of the Asian Pacific Congress of Cardiology and the 56th Annual Convention and Scientific Session of the Taiwan Society of Cardiology, per CNA. He welcomed visiting experts and thanked medical professionals for their work in advancing health.
Lai said the government launched the Healthy Taiwan Cultivation Plan last year and is promoting AI-assisted diagnosis and telemedicine. He said these tools are aimed at strengthening disease risk management.
He added that cardiovascular disease is becoming a growing challenge due to population aging and lifestyle changes. At the same time, he said advances in AI and medical technology are creating new opportunities for prevention and treatment.
Lai said Taiwan is focusing on tackling the “three highs” — hypertension, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia — through the 888 Program. The plan aims by 2030 to enroll 80% of patients into care networks, provide lifestyle counseling to 80% of them, and achieve disease control for 80%.
He said the government will work with organizations such as the Taiwan Society of Cardiology to strengthen early screening and intervention.
