TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. made more profit at its Arizona operations in the first quarter of 2026 than in all of last year, while its Kumamoto joint venture turned a profit for the first time, reports said Saturday.
The plant near Phoenix reported NT$18.8 billion (US$595.58 million) in profit for January-March, compared to NT$16.14 billion for all of 2025, per CNA. Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing made a profit of NT$951 million during the first quarter, following a loss of NT$3.24 billion for all of last year.
For the joint venture based in Kumamoto, it was the first profit since the production of semiconductors began in late 2024. The company still posted losses of NT$278 million for the factory in Dresden, Germany, which is under construction.
TSMC also revealed the government subsidies it has received for its international projects, CNA reported. It received NT$505 million from the US, Japan, Germany and other countries in the first quarter of this year, a decrease of NT$34.64 billion from NT$35.15 billion in the same period last year, a drop of 98.56%.
The Arizona fab now in operation is only the beginning of its projects for Arizona. The company’s plan includes six fabs including the one already working, two advanced packaging facilities, and a research and development center.
TSMC plans to invest a total of NT$5.21 trillion in its Arizona projects. In Kumamoto, work to build a second fab has started.
