TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hualien experienced a magnitude 5.0 earthquake at 6:43 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 3.6 kilometers north of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 15.8 kilometers, the CWA said. Taiwan uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure an earthquake’s intensity at a specific location.
The earthquake registered an intensity level of 4 in Hualien; an intensity level of 3 in Nantou; an intensity level of 2 in Taichung and Yilan; and an intensity level of 1 in Taoyuan, Taitung, Miaoli, Hsinchu, New Taipei, Changhua, Yunlin, and Chiayi.
